Logcrawling the King's Highway

  NEXT
Would you go in the woods with this man?

Would you go in the woods with this man?   We came down a long hill that was pretty mellow.   We were blocked by more dead trees and Shad started hacking.   I decided to yank it away instead.   After pulling a log away from across the stream,   I helped Shad build up a ramp over this log.   I tried it first.   I almost made it but we had to build it up a bit more.   After I got past Shad tried it,   He made it over with no problem.   Eventually we came to a place where there were too many trees to deal with.   So we had to find an alternate route through the trees...   Later we crossed the Appalachian Trail   We came to an intersection with the Old King's Highway.   This must be the old King's Highway - it was impassable   At the end of the trail we came to a meadow and a muddy stretch.   It looked like a staging area for logging, so I thought it would be ok to make a few runs on the grass.   There was space to do some loops and then down to the mud...   At the bottom I looped around and went through the mud...   This time I overcorrected and started heading for a tree...   Shad decided to try it... Up the hill...   Around and down...   Down into the mud....   For some reason this reminds me of a German ad...   He also went around several times...   Although this area was used for logging machines and we didn't do much damage to the meadow, I guess that wasn't following strict tread lightly rules - I wouldn't do it again.   Overall, it was a pretty fun day...

Shad and I decided to check out an area in central VT where there are several trails called "The King's Highway". Most of these are old, very overgrown carriage roads. This was the area where we came up with the term "logcrawling". At the end, we found a place where we could cruise in a meadow and end up in mud. Although this area was used for logging machines and we didn't do much damage to the meadow, I guess that wasn't following strict tread lightly rules - I wouldn't do it again. Overall, it was one of the most fun outings I've been on to date.
